Lilly and Silvestri Score Wins in Twin Legends Features During United Rentals 200

Callaway, VA (April 28, 2024) – Chris Lilly of Shenandoah and Daniel Silvestri of Great Falls split twin Moneta Tractor and Trailer Legends division races during the United Rentals 200 Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway.

Lilly, who won five races during the 2023 season, made it two for two in the first of twin races before opting to start dead last on the field in the second race and coming up just one spot short of his third win of the young season. Silvestri qualified on the pole during Trader Jerry’s Time Trials but spun the wheel and was inverted to the fourth starting position for the start of the first race.

Lilly, Silvestri, and Ethan Truell of Winston-Salem, NC swapped positions early and often before Lilly ultimately took command of the race on his way to victory lane. Lilly won the first race ahead of Silvestri, Truell, 2023 Legends Track Champion James Folds of Roanoke, and Nathan Wheat of Roanoke rounded out the top five in race number one.

In the second race for the Moneta Tractor and Trailer Legends cars Silvestri started up front and took the top spot on the start, while Lilly raced back to the front after opting on his own to start shotgun on the field. Silvestri would take home the win with Lilly rallying to second but running out of laps to catch Silvestri. Truell, Folds, and Wheat completed the top five finishers.

Wes Givens of Richmond took home his second and third wins of the season in twin Stock4 division races, but the wins didn’t come without a battle. In race number one Givens battled side by side with Josh Brown of Doe Run before a caution led to a restart and Givens took command of the race to the finish. Brown would slip to third behind Keyshaun Claytor of Salem. Josh Hinchee of Boones Mill and Gary Smith of Buchanan completed the top five finishers.

In race two, Givens rallied from a full-field invert to take home the victory, his third on the season in just four races. Jaden Austin of Callaway crossed the finish line second but would be disqualified due to a slight camber violation. Claytor inherited second with Smith third, Chris Amos of Roanoke fourth and Brown finishing fifth in race two for the Stock4 division.

The One Stop Towing Late Models continued their carnage from race number one with much of the field being eliminated early and not finishing. Though he could not avoid the carnage, Matthew Lawrence of Floyd survived the race cut short due to a time limit for his second career Late Model win.

Lawrence, a second-generation Late Model driver, is the son of former NASCAR Weekly Series standout, Jason Lawrence. Lawrence navigated his way past carnage and eventually took the top spot away from former Mini Stock track champion Daniel Hutson of Rocky Mount on his way to victory lane. Hutson would finish second with Tyler Ashley of Galax rallying from a couple of crashes to finish third. Gennaro Palumbo of Bassett and Landin Nester were credited with top-five finishes.

The Mini Stock division saw former SMART Modified Tour driver Dennis Holdren of Roanoke pick up his first win in any car since his 2019 championship campaign at nearby Motor Mile Speedway in the Super Street division. Holdren qualified on the pole and led flag to flag on his way to victory. Holdren was followed to the finish line by 2023 Mini Stock track champion Josh Phillips of Rocky Mount, Scott Foley of Rocky Mount, Tommy Hall of Roanoke, and David Duncan of Rocky Mount.

Racing action at Franklin County Speedway will have a week off this weekend but will return to action next Saturday, May 11th with the Boone Tractor Mother’s Day Special featuring the Grand National Super Series. Among the competitors expected for the Grand National Super Series is former NASCAR Cup Series driver Jeremy Mayfield.

Mayfield and the rest of the touring stars will hit the Fastest 3/8-mile Paved Oval in the World on Saturday, May 11th at 7pm. Mayfield won two Grand National races at Franklin County Speedway in 2022 and will look to sweep twins again. Also racing on this night are the Mini Stocks, Moneta Tractor and Trailer Legends, and Stock4 divisions.
